For most of the 21st century, Andy Beta has been an adventurous music writer and an omnivorous listener. He grew up on Willie & Waylon in Texas, hunted for molam in Thailand, played in a Javanese gamelan, dug for disco in innumerable basements, made a pilgrimage to Alice Coltrane’s ashram in California, traveled to the projects of Lisbon to write about batida, and even trekked to Ibiza, somehow avoiding EDM altogether. His byline has appeared in the New York Times, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, SPIN, Resident Advisor, Red Bull Music Academy, Wall St. Journal, the Believer, LA Times, Washington Post, NPR, MTV and more.
